Great article! I’m glad I read it. Helps me normalize what I viewed as inconsistent about my positions and choices. I especially like the ‘moving target’ concept of defining the terms in question. I also feel that I have too many questions to be ‘conservative’ and too many answers to be ‘liberal’ (although the latter feels a little prideful when I say it about myself.)
The question of whether a person is conservative or progressive is probably one of those issues where it's actually better to sit on the fence! Neither position is exactly right, and neither is exactly wrong.
Really, really good point! They're just labels, of course - and many times there are no doubt situations where we can't be fence-sitters and choose to engage in actions that might be perceived as one or the other.
